If you can add to this information please email - Philip Percival NotesBorn at 17 Cadogan Street, Chelsea, in the Sub-District of North East Saint Luke Chelsea, Registration District of St Luke Chelsea, County of Middlesex. The two witnesses at the wedding were THOMAS CURSON HANSARD and THOMAS WATKINS. The latter may have been the groom's father or the groom's brother or possibly the groom's grandfather - the three of them were THOMAS WATKINS. Jan Coutts from Wellington, New Zealand, reports that ALFRED THOMAS WATKINS went to Japan and acquired the partnership with the Japan Herald from John Reddie Black, a Scot from Australia, who had been a co-proprietor of the Japan Herald with ALBERT WILLIAM HANSARD, who had started the paper in 1861 in Yokohama. Sometime later ALFRED THOMAS WATKINS went to Kobe. 4th January 1868 WATKINS established a weekly newspaper - The Hiogo and Osaka Herald, which became the first English paper in the Kansai District. WATKINS is said to have joined the service (?) to South Africa and died there around 1882-84. Professor Yuga Suzuki from the Sophia University, Japan supplied most of the information in the previous four paragraphs to Jan Coutts.
