Carried on his father's business at Little Rissington at the mill.
A year after his father's death Frederick married Harriett Rawlings at
Fifield Church on 13 July 1861. Harriett's father was a busy man in the
village being a slater, plasterer and the parish clerk. He was also
well occupied at home - he and his wife Elizabeth had 14 children of whom
Harriett, baptised in 1835, was the eldest. William is almost certainly
descended from a long line of Rawlings who were living at nearby
Shipton-under-Wychwood since at least the sixteenth century. William's
father John was from Shipton and was also a slater and plasterer as were
many of the other Rawlings from Shipton.
Frederick and Harriett Arthurs were to spend all their married life at
Little Rissington where their nine children were born. Alice, the
eldest, was born in 1863 followed by Frederick William (named after his father
and maternal grandfather), the following year. Harriet was born in 1866,
Emily in 1868, Daniel in 1869, Mary in 1870, Edward in 1872, John in 1870 and
the youngest George in 1876.
For most, if not all, of the time they were
living at Rissington Mill, situated on the very western boundary of the parish
with Bourton-on-the-Water, on the bank of the River Dikler. It was a very
isolated position some 500 yards from the village reached by a climb
through fields. Today it appears a very picturesque and idyllic place to live.
In 1879, though, tragedy was to strike the family. One of the daughters,
Mary aged nine, died and was buried on 2 July in Fifield churchyard "to be
near the relatives on both sides". Exactly six weeks later her mother,
Harriett, was also buried there aged 44 years. The cause of death, according to
her death certificate, being caused by "exposure to cold 8 nights; ulcerateus
of stomach 5 weeks." It must have been hard for the family to recover
from this double tragedy. The eldest daughter, Alice, who was 15, took over
as housekeeper and must have helped look after the seven younger children,
the youngest being three years old. In 1886 the mill was sold and the
family moved to Stow-on-the-Wold, the largest town of the area, five miles
away.
In 1891 Frederick was living at Sheep Street in Stow and was described as
a general labourer. He was living with three of his sons, Edward, 19 a
butcher, John Thomas, 18, and George, 15, both general labourers.
Frederick continued living at Stow until his death in January 1904 aged 69 years.
He was buried, where his wife, daughter and other members of his family
were also buried, at Fifield Church.

Catherine Easen - Family History Notes
The spelling of her maiden name, was shown as Essen on her daughter Elisabeth's birth certificate. It may also have been Easson. The spelling of Catherine is also shown as Katherine and Cathrine.
She had a sister called Margaret, who married William Sparke of Graigie Park, Aberdeen. When William died he left the lands of Graigie park and Damside to his nephew Henry and thereafter to Gerald Smith Spark, on the condition that they bear the surname of Smith-Sparke.
