Percy Percival - Family History Notes. His mother died when he was 6 and he was brought up by his elder sister Emma. He is reported to have had a fairly fragile constitution from an early age and when he was 12 or 13 fell off a horse and broke both his wrists. Percy was probably apprenticed to John Rees, who was a wine merchant and the husband of Percy's elder sister Emma. He was accompanied at least by his son, Arthur. In 1884 he was living at 20, King Street, Westoe, Durham. His occupation then was listed as Wine Merchant. His method of earning a livelyhood after this is a little vague, however various family notes from Nona indicate that Percy and Emily, looked after a backward but harmless child/Adult, Percy Gilbey for which they recieved ¹1000 per year. This all owed them to live in a succession of large houses including Perridge Manor House, Shepton Mallet, Somerset. Somerset Court near Knoll hill Somerset and laterly Berrow Manor. He was President of the British Poultry Keeper's Society and a great judge of Poultry. And had a keen interest in Nature. He was loved by everybody having a kind and gentle nature.
